The generations have evolved and so as the use of different words with the rise of modern technology. People now did not probably know these uncommonly used filipino words that are still waiting to be used by us Filipinos. Some of these words have been used by most of us in english words because it is more prevalent, without knowing that we encounter these words everyday and can also be translated into filipino words. Here are the ten uncommonly used filipino words that most of us native speakers are unaware of.


1.  Sulatroniko (E-mail)



Definition: E-mail (Electronic mail) is a method of exchanging messages between people using electronic devices.

Example Sentence: Nakigamit ako ng sulatroniko sa aking kaklase upang maipadala ang mensahe sa aming guro.


2. Panginain (Browser)

Definition: A web browser is application software for accessing the World Wide Web or a local website.

Example Sentence: Hanapin mo sa panginain ang asignaturang ibinigay ng ating guro.


3. Kawingan (Hyperlink)


Definition: A hyperlink is an electronic link providing direct access from one distinctively marked place in a hypertext or hypermedia document to another in the same or a different document.

Example Sentence: Lagyan mo ng kawingan ang iyong ginagawang presentasyon upang mapadali ang paglalagay ng impormasyon.


4. Payneta (Comb)


Definition: A strip of plastic, metal, or wood with a row of narrow teeth, used for untangling or arranging the hair.

Example Sentence: Ang payneta ni Anna ay marumi.


5. Sambat (Fork)

Definition: An implement with two or more prongs used for lifting food to the mouth or holding it when cutting.

Example Sentence: Hindi makakain ng maayos si Roberto kung walang sambat.


6. Antipara (Eyeglasses)
Definition: Are devices consisting of glass or hard plastic lenses mounted in a frame that holds them in front of a person’s eyes.

Example Sentence: Hindi ako makakita ng maayos kung walang antipara.


7. Duyog (Eclipse)


Definition: An occasion when the sun looks like it is completely or partially covered with a dark circle because the moon is between the sun and the Earth.

Example Sentence: Minsan lang ako makakita ng duyog.


8. Durungawan (Window)


Definition: An opening especially in the wall of a building for admission of light and air that is usually closed by casements or sashes containing transparent material (such as glass) and capable of being opened and shut.

Example Sentence: Nakatulala ang isang babae sa kanilang durungawan.


9. Batlag (Car)


Definition: A vehicle moving on wheels.

Example Sentence: Napakabilis ng isang batlag na nakita ko kanina sa kalsada.


10. Dupil (Amulet)


Definition: Anything that is believed to have the power to save the person who owns it from any harm. The more popular Tagalog words currently being used are anting-anting and agimat.

Example Sentence: Ang dupil na ito ay ipinamana pa sa aking ina noong namatay ang kaniyang mga magulang.
